Dale has always been surrounded by myth. It used to be an institution for people with mental disorders. Today it is Norway's biggest immigrant asylum. The balance between being a contributor to society - or living in a way that separates you from a society you would like to be a part of. The Gandsfjord is just 3-4 km wide, but the distance to the rest of society is often perceived as much greater. Dale has always been a place of strong human destinies and Dale is a place for people that have not just seen the bright side of life.
In connection with the Watercolours project, a marvelous light installation will be put together in the apple tree garden at Dale. It will be standing as a light sculpture and change character depending on point of view, weather and seasons - from the first buds to full flowers to fruit harvest - then a degradation and preparation for a new spring. Some of the trees are old, gnarled and have seen better days - others still carry fruits.
But what is it with Dale? What has happened there? We would like to challenge pupils in the age 10 to 15 to give us a story about Dale. Do any secrets come to life with any of the 40 enlighted apple trees?
The mystery of Dale. An essay competition that might bring both mystery and myth back into the life?
The competition will end on the 30 of october.
